Dragon Boat Racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and over the last few years has become the fastest growing water activity in Britain! The race comprises of large canoe-like vessels in the shape of a dragon and are crewed by a team of up to 11 people – 10 rowers and 1 drummer – working together to be the fastest boat on the water.
21 teams took part in this year’s race on Saturday 17th June on the Brayford Waterfront in Lincoln, with each team racing a length of 200 meters, 3 times in the initial heats.
Our heat race times were:
1st Race Time: 71.09s
2nd Race Time: 70.23s
3rd Race Time: 66.13s
Taking Mighty Motor Source through to the semi-finals and took 5th place overall – a vast improvement on our 17th place last year!
The event was enjoyed by spectators on the waterfront who were able to visit the many stands, enjoy a game of “Play Your Car(d)s Right” with our land team and also see our mascot Motor Moose on their inaugural outing, which was a great fun for children, getting lots of waves, high fives and even a cuddle or two.
The purpose of the Dragon Boat Race is to raise funds for Lincolnshire charity LIVES, who exist to provide emergency care in critical situations. They are a group of qualified and skilled medical volunteers supporting our community to ensure that anyone who suffers a 999 medical emergency in Lincolnshire, can be assured that they ae surrounded by the best rapid response care available.
Last year’s race helped to raise nearly £18,000 for LIVES.
